Sri Lanka's Military Dispatch Relief Teams to Myanmar

COLOMBO (News 1st): In response to the recent earthquake in Myanmar, a specialized medical and disaster relief team from Sri Lanka's tri-services, led by Brigadier Punya Karunathilake, departed on a special flight today, April 5th.

The 26-member team is set to provide crucial assistance to those affected by the disaster.

These relief operations are being conducted under the supervision of Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), following directives from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The swift deployment of these special relief teams by the tri-service commanders highlights the rapid response capabilities of Sri Lanka's defense forces.

Myanmar, is receiving not only disaster and humanitarian aid but also essential supplies, including medical assistance.

These supplies were generously donated by the people of Sri Lanka, guided by the Venerable Maha Sangha and the Chief Prelates of the three Buddhist chapters, and are being sent to the Myanmar government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary to the Ministry, played a crucial role in coordinating the diplomatic arrangements for this mission. Additionally, Sri Lanka's national carrier, SriLankan Airlines, contributed significantly to this humanitarian effort.
