COLOMBO (News 1st); Today is Maundy Thursday, a significant day in Holy Week marking the beginning of Easter.

On this day, Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples, setting an example that leaders should serve others.

Maundy Thursday is a special day in the Christian calendar, commemorating the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion.

During this time, Christians remember the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the establishment of the priesthood by Jesus through his sacrificial life.

Churches around the world observe these events, reflecting on the profound teachings of humility and service.

Before the Last Supper, Jesus performed the act of washing his disciples' feet, symbolizing that a leader must be a servant to others.

This tradition continues today, with the Pope and other clergy members ceremonially washing and kissing the feet of individuals.

Tomorrow is Good Friday, a day when Christians mark the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
