COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan government says that it will introduce a modern and comfortable fleet of technologically advanced buses as part of the 2025 budget proposal. The announcement was made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
This initiative aims to improve the efficiency and comfort of public sector transportation within Colombo city.
As an initial step, the government will deploy 100 air-suspension, low-floor buses along three main road corridors in Colombo.
To support this initiative, the government has allocated Rs. 3,000 million for the procurement of these 100 low-floor buses.
In addition to the government's efforts, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) will contribute to the modernization plan by adding 200 low-bed passenger buses to its fleet, funded through its own resources.
This combined effort is expected to significantly enhance the public transportation infrastructure in Colombo.
The new buses will be operated under newly established companies collectively known as Metro Bus Companies (MBC).
These companies will operate on a fully digitized platform, ensuring efficient and streamlined operations.
